Michail (Michalis) Symeonidis studied Electrical and Computer Engineering at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, specializing in optical communications.
He completed his PhD at EPFL, where his work focused on light-matter interaction and optical metamaterials. Since joining Fraunhofer IZM, he has been part of the Photonic & Plasmonic Systems (PPS) group within the WLSI department.
His research focuses on data center interconnect technologies and next-generation communication networks, with a particular interest in neuromorphic and quantum technologies as emerging enablers for future communication systems.
